AI governance can quickly become an oversized document nobody reads. The better starting point is a small set of decisions people can actually apply.
Start with use cases
Before a framework, collect the ways people are already using AI or trying to use it. Sort those use cases by risk, data sensitivity, business value, and reversibility.
Make the first rules usable
The first rules should answer common questions:
- What data cannot go into a tool?
- Which uses need review?
- Who owns the decision?
- What evidence should be retained?
Build the system as the work matures
A governance system should grow from reality. Start small, operate it, learn where the friction is, and improve it.
